HPS Programme

The Health Performance Science programme is a 60 ECTS second-year master track taught entirely in English. Successful students will obtain the French National Sports science degree “Training and Optimization of Sports Performance” (EOPS), with the Health Performance Science mention from Université Jean Monnet.

Curriculum and course descriptions

The first semester of the H.P.S. programme includes advanced training in Movement science, Physiology, Biomechanics, Sports engineering, and Research methodology and equipment, with applications to the study of both athletes and patients. Transversal topics include courses on Professional and Business skills and in Scientific English. Total in-class training time is approximately 300 hours in the semester.

Presence in class is required. Many courses involve hands-on use of lab equipment, and few courses provide online materials. Absences are to be justified, and recovering missed course content is the student’s responsibility.

The second semester of the HPS master is entirely dedicated to doing an internship and the master thesis:

  • A four (or more)-month internship in a research or professional environment (15 ECTS)
  • Writing a master thesis and giving the thesis defence (15 ECTS)

The internship and the thesis are supervised by the research or professional supervisor in the hosting organisation, and by an academic supervisor (thesis director) representing the HPS master programme. Some internships and thesis topics will be proposed by the research teams associated with the HPS master at UJM but students are free to find their internships themselves, provided the study topic complies with HPS programme requirements.
